Fanny
Bay Oysters is Business of the Year
Fanny Bay Oysters has
been named Business of the Year by the Comox Valley Chamber
of Commerce. The awards were presented at the Chamber's 80th
annual awards ceremony and annual general meeting.
"Fanny Bay
Oysters has been chosen as Business of the Year for many
reasons, the first of which is their incredible business
success and their hard work towards employing local workers,"
out-going Chamber president Larry Benner said as he introduced
the winner.
Benner applauded
Fanny Bay Oysters owners Glen and Sharon Hadden for making
a huge personal and economic investment in the valley "and
pioneering several processes and procedures which have now
become widely accepted in the industry," he said.
"They have
taken several steps to ensure their product is free from
contaminants and they have worked hard to build up an international
and domestic market. As well as working hard to make their
business viable, they have worked hard to ensure the status
of their industry is ensured," he added.
Fanny Bay Oysters
has lobbied hard for better land tenure and licensing conditions;
they have fought bureaucratic red tape and unrealistic legislation.
"Their battle
to gain government attention to their industry is legendary.
Their industry has much to offer the valley, the Island
and the province."
The award was presented
to the Haddens by last year's award winner, Terry Hamilton
of Field Sawmills, and Chamber director Sue Finneron.
